In this episode we’ll look at ways to get your program listed in a variety of podcast directories including iTunes, the Zune store, Podcast.com and many more. This will be the first step in going through this process because I’m just starting this process as well. I’ll report back later to let you know how well I’ve done in terms of getting my programs listed in these directories. In time, I hope to be able to offer a better judgment of the value of the various directories as I analyze the traffic to ExplorePodcasting.com.
In this episode we’ll look at what I refer to as Podcastings trifecta. I’ve learned that there are three discrete processes involved in launching your first podcast. They can be broken down as follows:
Create a WordPress Blog
Find a Media Host
Connect it all with a Feedburner feed
As a new podcaster I found these three steps to be the biggest obstacles to getting started. This episode will help to dispel the mystery.
As I continue to learn more about developing and syndicating my content, I discovered a site called TubeMogul.com. This site allows you to upload your videos to a multitude of video sharing sites all in one motion. Check out the video above.
As you build your podcast you need to accomplish a number of steps. Step 3 of the Podcasting Trifecta is to connect your WordPress blog, your media host (Libsyn.com) to an RSS feed using Feedburner. To be clear, this step is not always necessary. If you are hosting your blog on your own WordPress installation, you can merely use the feed that is automatically created within WordPress. Read more…
One of the most critical questions you’ll ask s a podcaster has to do with where you host your actual mp3 files. Sure you can host them on your websites server but do that at your peril. Hey you’re an Internet broadcaster now and your host has unlimited bandwidth – or does it? Read more…
We’re now beginning to create more video tutorials to complement the audio podcasts we’re producing. Check out our new channel on Youtube at: www.YouTube.com/ExplorePodcasting.
It’s time! I’ve recorded my first episode, uploaded it to Libsyn, created a FeedBurner feed, and managed to get it accepted by the iTunes Store. You can subscribe using the following link: Subscribe Using iTunes.
Now I need to focus on improving the appearance of this blog. This involves selecting a template, creating artwork and installing plugins. Read on to help us improve the look of this site… Read more…
OK, here goes. Here is the premiere episode Explore Podcasting. It’s taken longer then I had hoped but I’ve had a heck of a time figuring out how to actually get an audio file hosted on Libsyn to show up in my Podcast Blog. My next step will be figuring out how to do the basic feedburner feed.
I’ve been working on building a rolling cart for my audio equipment. The combination of mixers and microphones was beginning to take over my desk. This rolling cart is still smaller than it should be but it get’s me started. The other nice thing about this setup is that if I want to bring in interviewers (hence the second mic, a Shure SM-58), I can roll the whole setup into the living room or kitchen for a more relaxed setting.
This stand helps keep my equipment organized. I can run the cord for the Behringer UCA 200 interface (included with the Behringer 1204 mixer) to either my desktop or to my laptop computer. Only two cords run from the cabinet:
A single power cord. All the devices in the cart are plugged into a power bar with the single plug running to a nearby power outlet.
USB cable for the UCA 200 interface. This can be connected to an adjacent desktop computer or to a laptop running atop the cabinet.
In the near future I’ll build version 2 of the cabinet which will be higher and wider. Practice makes perfect, and this podcast is about learning through experimentation after all.
Welcome. This is the first post in my first blog and podcast – and that is kind of the idea of this site. I want to explore podcasting. My goal is to launch several shows and to use this podcast to profile the trials and tribulations of getting started in podcasting. I’ll share the good, the bad and the ugly. What did I do right and where did I really mess things up?
Have you been thinking of starting a podcast? Why haven’t you? I’ve been sitting on this fence for a very long time and this time I’m going to ride the damn bull. Why don’t you jump off the fence with me? Let’s all stop talking about podcasting and start to do it.
I look at this podcast like I look at losing weight. On one hand, your friends and fellow podcast explorers can help to keep you accountable…hey, you said you’d (lose 5 pounds) have a WordPress account set up weeks ago! On the other hand, friends can often take on the role of enablers. They can give us handy excuses for NOT doing something. Well they’re not invited to this discussion! This site is for those of us that are ready to act.
I have no idea where this journey will lead. My goal is to launch several podcasts and to develop friends and collaborators that will share the journey with me. If we’re all learning together then how can we fail? When I get burned out and begin to waiver in my commitment, then you can smack me and get me back on track – and I’ll do the same for you.
So are you ready? No more paralysis by analysis. No more talk. No more excuses.
